About Us
Black People United for Change

Black People United for Change is a new and growing initiative dedicated to driving meaningful change within the Black community.
Our first step is fostering unity through education, community-based events, and open dialogue.
We are committed to using every available resource to raise awareness and spark conversations about the changes needed to empower and uplift our community.
Together, we will create a stronger, more resilient future—built on knowledge, solidarity, and purpose.

Educating the Black Community about suicide prevention is a vital step in addressing a growing crisis that is often overlooked due to stigma and cultural silence.
Suicide rates among Black Canadians, particularly youth, are alarmingly high, yet conversations around mental health and suicide are often discouraged or dismissed within the community.
Many hold stigmatic beliefs that seeking help is a sign of weakness or that mental illness is a taboo subject. Recognizing the signs of suicide and being trained to intervene can save lives.
Individuals certified in First Aid Suicide Prevention through LivingWorks ASIST not only gain essential life-saving skills but can also pursue opportunities in social work, community outreach, education, and healthcare settings.
In response to this urgent need, Black People United for Change has committed to hosting four free suicide prevention workshops between July and October 2025, open to Black Ontarians aged 16 and up.
Each session includes complimentary lunch and refreshments. We are currently accepting registrations—please contact us at:
