💗 The History of the Annual Cancer Brunch
The Annual Cancer Brunch was created from a heartfelt desire to bring the community together in the fight against cancer while offering meaningful support to individuals and families facing this devastating disease. What began as a community-driven effort has grown into an annual gathering centred on love, compassion, awareness, fundraising, and hope.
This year marks the Third Annual Cancer Brunch, hosted by Ladys and Men Who Care, founded by Christine Jackson (Christine Jackson Lady Promoter), in partnership with Black People United For Change Inc.
Together, we are committed to continuing this important tradition and creating many more opportunities to support cancer warriors and their families.
Over the years, the Cancer Brunch has received tremendous community support from organizations and businesses including Black People United for Change, the Canadian Cancer Society, Maple Lodge Farms, Sunset Grill, Always Family First, DC Beauty Bar Spa, and OPIRG York. The event has also been embraced and endorsed by prominent gospel and reggae artists, including George Nooks, Fay Morris, Juno Award-winning Mel-C, Tony Anthony, and many others who have used their voices to help bring awareness to this important cause.
Last year's Second Annual Cancer Brunch raised funds for Rosceda Patterson, a courageous 31-year-old cancer warrior who fought a long and difficult battle with cancer. Sadly, Rosceda passed away, leaving behind a reminder of just how deeply cancer can affect individuals, families, and entire communities. Her memory continues to inspire the work behind this event.
This year, our hearts are with Nardia Hall of Jamaica, who is battling Stage 3 breast cancer. Nardia had previously reached remission, but heartbreakingly, the cancer has returned. Every dollar raised at this year's brunch will be donated directly to Nardia to help with the costs associated with obtaining the treatment she needs in her fight against this disease.
💗 THIS YEAR'S BRUNCH
The Third Annual Cancer Brunch will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at the Jamaican Canadian Association, with doors opening at 1:00 PM.
Leggy's Catering will provide this year's delicious meal, with Elaine Robinson serving as Master of Ceremonies. Elaine is widely known in the community as the CEO of GHETTO Stories — “Getting Higher Education to Teach Others.”
This brunch is about more than food, music, and fellowship. It is about standing together when someone is facing one of life's most difficult battles. It reminds cancer warriors they are not alone and shows families their community cares.
Ladys and Men Who Care and Black People United For Change Inc. believe that no one should have to face cancer alone. Through this partnership, we hope to continue building a tradition of compassion, fundraising, advocacy, and community support for many years to come.
Together, we can turn compassion into action, hope into support, and community into strength.
