Black People United for Change Listens
💛 You don’t have to carry it alone. 💛
Black People United for Change LISTENS is a virtual emotional support and listening service created to hold space for you — especially if you’ve been impacted by anti-Black racism, stress, or trauma.
Our Story
Black People United for Change Listens is a virtual emotional support and listening initiative created to provide a compassionate, judgment-free space for individuals navigating stress, trauma, and the impacts of anti-Black racism. Founded as an extension of the Black People United for Change organization, LISTENS was launched to address a critical gap in accessible mental health support for Black communities in Canada.
We started LISTENS because studies and lived experiences show that members of the Black community often face stigma, bias, and barriers within the traditional mental health system. Many individuals who have experienced racism, trauma, or emotional distress do not have safe spaces to be heard without judgment. Recognizing this, our team of trained volunteer listeners established a platform that prioritizes empathy, inclusivity, and understanding, creating a space where every voice matters.
Our mission is to ensure that emotional support is accessible, free, and tailored to the needs of those who need it most. Through LISTENS, we hope to:
-
Empower individuals to safely express their feelings and experiences.
-
Connect people to helpful resources and guidance.
-
Reduce the isolation and stigma often felt by survivors of anti-Black racism.
-
Foster healing, resilience, and community care while creating a model of support that benefits anyone in need.
Ultimately, Black People United for Change LISTENS strives to be more than a support service — we aim to be a trusted ally, a haven, and a catalyst for emotional well-being in our communities.
